Proposed Waukonda-Klock Expressway, 1953

A map showing the planned Waukonda-Klock Expressway on the north side of Benton Harbor from 1953. This is from the era when the State Highway Dept was planning to use the route as a US-12 bypass of downtown Benton Harbor. Later, after the I-94/US-12 freeway was built bypassing the Twin Cities, the portion of the proposed route from Fair Ave westerly to US-33 (former US-31) was proposed as part of an M-139 extension. Much of the roadway was never constructed, however.
